Performance in Music Video

When I think about performance in music video my mind immediately goes to jazz video from the 60's. In these video's it was really before the whole idea of the music video but it was still televised and broadcast. The beauty of that is that it seems as if the musicians are never playing to the camera. Sure they line up a certain way so that  they are visible, but when the performance starts it is the cameras job to move with them. The moments when the camera is really tight on someone, especially there face is a brilliant moment. They aren't hamming it up to the camera. They are doing what they love and they are so far into the music that it shows. We are there to watch. I have just recently dug into old jazz videos and I am so glad I did.

First off, I love the Roots...a lot. Now that that is out of the way, I also love the music video for "The Next Movement". It's a concept video that plays off of performance.  The addition of the curtains and show girls really adds to the fact that thy are playing off if the idea that its a theatre.
